Capturing intriguing ideas and interesting people
I regularly stumble across fascinating ideas and people in the arts and wanted somewhere to showcase that – here it is. If you want to know more about any of these projects, I usually include relevant links in the post, but failing that you can get in touch with me via the Contact page or comments.
Back in 2013 I read an interview with Deborah Bestwick, Director of Ovalhouse theatre and arts centre in Kennington. She talked about how it’s not her role to lead artists where she wants them to go, but instead to provide ‘inspiring and provocative “jumping-off” places to start from’, treating the germ of an idea like a pier or a hang-glider – a new way to view the surrounding landscape. Every post here features something which is a ‘hang-glider’ for me, and could be for someone else too.
You can read the full interview with Deborah on the Guardian Arts Professionals blog.
Creativity is just connecting things.
I’m Emily Jones. I work in live music, programming at Cheltenham Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 2, and have also worked in concert halls and theatre. I’m currently the Chair of the Jazz Promotion Network for the UK & Ireland, and am developing my work as a producer through a Boom fellowship with Oxford Contemporary Music. My spare time is filled with gigs, opera, ballet, theatre, art, food, photography, playing percussion and travel. I will watch or listen to anything once. Maybe more than once if it’s good.
